Contextual backlinks are links to external websites that are placed within the main or primary content of a web page. Contextual backlinks come naturally within content. They are not links that are placed within the navigation, sidebars, widgets, footer or ads.

Contextual links are high quality links built from high authority webpages. They are links built from existing content of a website or blog. They help to improve keyword rankings and also generate good traffic from an established web content.

So ... i'm still puzzled ... why would this be beneficiary for the one creating that link (to an external site)?

Yes, you 'prove' that you've read into the subject.
And supposedly rank better.
But you also prove that you're not an authority.
AND you drive people away from your page/site.

Right?

Or do you trigger opening in a new window?

Maybe someone has an example of proper use?
