Hi all.

I've had the software for a while but I'm really only getting into SEO Spyglass for the first time and I have a question.

In the report, "Step 1" says to, "Use these exact keyphrases..." The problem is that these are the keyphrases from my competition's website. How can I use these? Especially when you consider that a couple of them have their company name?

Any advice would be most welcome and appreciated.

All the best,

Tim.

Indeed you should not be using your competitors' brand or company names. This table just takes all the anchor texts from the project and accumulates them all in one place, and you need to filter that information. A site can have tons of backlinks with the anchor text being their company name, you can do the same for your company, because not always there's a chance to get a backlink with an anchor text you would like. Still, these backlinks play a role in the sites' rankings. You should not pay attention to such anchor texts, or rather interchange them for your company/brand names and concentrate on the anchor texts that are your business niche keywords. If those are very few - you can make a conclusion that it is enough to have general backlinks, without keyword-comprised anchors, to rank high in your niche. That leads to conclusion that gaining more backlinks with anchor text consisting of your main keywords will make your link-building strategy more specific and help you beat the competitor.
