"LinkAssistant could not find the URL you specified"

Since upgrading to 2.5.8, I get that completely invalid error message every time I try to add a new site. I tried using 2.5.7 again, and the error now affects each of my older versions of LA, too.

Of course, every URL I try to add is perfectly valid in every way. LinkAssistant is able to grab the URL's title immediately (so the page is obviously functional), but when I click the button to check for backlink compliancy, I get "LinkAssistant could not find the URL you specified".

Please fix this problem ASAP!

Please check your Support Ticket -- Chris has already replied to your message:

Seems like this not a problem of LinkAssistant. I can see a number of possible reasons for this error you're getting all the time:

1) You specified your "Partner Domain", but didn't specify the "Reciprocal Links Page" explicitly. You have to do this, otherwise it can take hours and days to scan just one site (if this is, for example, Wikipedia) to find your backlink.

2) Your URL doesn't start with http://. Please keep in mind that LinkAssistant requires all URLs to start with http://, https://, or any other valid protocol.

3) If nothing above solves the problem, please send us your project file (zipped, if possible) -- we'll check it ourselves, and will fix the problem ASAP.

Hm... Firstly, let me ask: are we talking about Rank Tracker here? ('cause you posted the problem in a topic entitled "LinkAssistant Bug Reports" ;))

Now, if we're talking about Rank Tracker, then the problem you described sounds a bit weird to me, because Rank Tracker does check https:// URLs as well (I've just made some tests myself to make sure it does).

Could you please create a Support Ticket, and also attach your project file to this ticket (don't be afraid, no one will see your private data) -- our support engeneers will check your project then, and we'll definitely fix the problem ASAP, if any.

Thanks. Waiting for your support ticket.

Thank you for creating a ticket and for sending us your project file.

Our support guys carefully examined your project, and found out that the problem is NOT in the secure "https://" protocol. The problem is caused by the fact that you're using a third-level domain for your https-related URLs like "subdomain.your-domain.com".

You see, from search engines' point of view URLs "your-domain.com" and "subdomain.your-domain.com" are two absolutely DIFFERENT domains that have almost nothing in common -- and their rankings are being calculated independently, so if you decide to optimize just one of these domains, this optimization won't influence the other one at all.

That is why Rank Tracker doesn't consider domains and sub-domains as the same *project*. If you want to track rankings for your sub-domain as well, please create a new project for "http://subdomain.your-domain.com" -- this will let you track search engines' rankings for subdomians as well.
