My Ranktracker hung on "Finish" after a large keyword scan... it scanned about 90% of my 35,000 keywords before it got sluggish and i cancelled it.

I had to Force Quit Rank Tracker, but when I re-opened it, I didn't get the friendly recovering your rankings dialog (or whatever it's called).

Did I lose my 3 day scan?

Yes... when you force quit the software, the data would have been lost (as you never finished the scan and saved the data first).
Basically if your computer is not super powerful, eventually you will run out of memory space otherwise and this will cause rank-tracker to crash.

The best solution, is to break your checking of keywords, into chucks / groups (e.g. 5000 keywords per time, is what another user here has mentioned works well for them) - see problems-with-10-000-keywords-t1730.html

I hope comments help and doing this, you can check the 35,000 keywords you are targeting :)

I've run into this problem again... Running rank tracker on 45,000 keywords. It slows down at about the 40,000 mark.... I try to click Finish and I wait an hour or two and NOTHING happens... If I close this project again I'm going to lost all my results, AGAIN.

I have a recent MacBook Pro with 4gb ram... activity monitor is showing 100% usage for RT, and 1.00GB real memory in use, 2.10GB of VM.

Is there a way to shutdown Rank Tracker without losing the 40,000 keywords it took 3 days to scan?

I'd send my reports, but of course I am unable to do so....

Admins PLEASE HELP.

Really sorry you have experienced the problem. The thing is that there are Java memory limitations no matter how powerful your computer is. With such large amounts of information the behavior can be really unstable.

As Asiaplay suggested above a good workaround is to split your keywords into groups to make sure that Java memory consumption does not hang the application at the end of a long scan. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Is there a way to up the memory allocation to java so I don't run into this limitation? There must be a way to do it on the command line... If this is a 64 bit implementation, from what I've read there should be no limitation. I'll use the workaround, but this seems like a hacked solution. I'd like to try to solve the real problem.

I CANNOT create reports anymore either... I don't think there is a workaround for this, and this is a MAJOR issue.

I click the reports tab for my 45,000 keywords, it goes for about an hour at 100% CPU, and then it appears to finish, but then all I see is a white screen where the report usually is.

How do I fix this?!

Hi zackiv31,

Really there is little I think link-assistant can do to fix this for you (it is due to the large amount of data being processed by rank-tracker and your own PC's lack of available memory).

The options are:-
a) Buy a more powerful computer (not a sensible option really... of course).
b) Run your 45,000 keywords in groups of a smaller quantity as I suggested (from your own experience, it sounds like 15,000 per time might be possible without your computers lack of memory causing the software to crash i.e. run as 3 groups / 1 group per time).
c)Remove keywords which are not truly useful for you to be tracking ranking position for... as in reality those keywords just never get searches / bring any traffic at all, more than once in a blue moon (or once ever in history perhaps) i.e. 45K keywords, is a lot to be actively targeting a site for - so perhaps it is worth reviewing the need for 45K keywords as well.

 I really suggest that you take these options, rather than hoping / expecting that a software supplier can change their program to fix a PC out of memory problem.

I hope comments are useful...

Cheers - Asiaplay

PS: You should be able to run / make reports, when you have collected data which is not corrupted by crashing due to trying to run too many keywords in one run - so try grouping keywords, not crashing and you should get reports as well...
