I am new to this but I have checked out my competition and I see a number of non relevant links. He is looking for high PR sites. Can this be a problem?
You know this is not really a problem, however it is not too beneficial either. Having links from non-relevant but high-PR sites will surely help you bring your own PR up. At the same time it won't really help you to rise in SERPs for the niche keywords.
So if your competition is after only the high PR in the toolbar - then why not
