I know that you should write semantic, add your exact keyword (phrase) three to 5 times on the page and not worry about keyword density but I think keyword density can be important. I think it can make a big difference especially with texts that are not long, for example 250 words (yes I know 500 words is best practice but on some pages you want to have less words). I think with these small pages adding your keyword only one time in the title or one time in the title and one times in h1 tag and one time bold can make a big difference.

Can anybody tell me if my gut fealing is right and confirm that with small text of 250 words a keyword appearance of three times is enough and with longer text of 500 words and up a keyword appearance of five times should do the trick.

Also I would like to know why the different keyword density analyzers give different keyword density even with the same settings. For example with these tool you get different % of keyword densiity:

- http://www.ranks.nl/cgi-bin/ranksnl/spi ... .cgi?lang=
- http://www.linkvendor.com/seo-tools/key ... nsity.html
- http://www.webuildpages.com/seo-tools/keyword-density/

There is no such evidence from search engines that we know of. Plus all websites and business niches are different. So it might look pretty silly if everybody published same-sized texts on their pages and repeated their keywords the same number of times.

If you are interested to learn about the approach that we use ourselves and recommend to our clients, please check out chapter 3 of our free e-guide 'SEO in Practice' (http://www.seoinpractice.com/step-by-st ... guide.html) or watch an introductory video about our WebSite Auditor tool (http://www.link-assistant.com/website-a ... movie.html).

The inconsistencies are caused by the differences in methodologies used.
