Found this on: http://developer.yahoo.com/search/siteexplorer/

Site Explorer APIs from Yahoo! Search

We’re shutting down this service in December 2010. For further details, please see the Deprecated Services blog post.

Well, they are shutting down the Site Explorer APIs - but the tool will still be working fine regularly, without an API.

Moreover we are constantly discovering additional backlink analysis services, one of them will be added to the software on Tuesday, so please follow our updates and e-mails ;)

hi,

i thought it's not only the API, but the whole yahoo siteexplorer, which won't work in a few days any more. Or is this not correct. Would be really a problem i think to analyse the backlinks in seospy & co without Y-Siteexplorer... but i m happy if you say that its only the api and the rest is working fine the next time.

Yes, Yahoo is basically off in terms of backlinks. What is left in SEO SpyGlass for next week or so until we release our own backlink database link is the powerful list of all remaining search engines, some of them (Alexa and Blekko, for instance), also return a lot of backlinks.

With all respect to Blekko & Co - besides being free, YSE was the largest backlink repository out there, and the heart and soul of any basic backlink research. Its dissapearance is a definite loss that is felt by every small and medium size SEO business. Much software has been built almost exclusively to make analysing the contents of the YSE database more seamlessly and more in depth.

With the discontinuation of YSE, much if this software has its status of a tool transformed to that of a *toy*. Software suppliers would be well advised to take the loss of YSE serious, because the majority of their (payed!) subscribers will NOT go for anything less than an adequate substitute for YSE - if they get thrown back to depend on the likes of Blekko and Bing, thell be gone-like-the-wind....... The fact that no solution is at hand, even though the death of YSE had been announced in advance *for years*, already tells them a lot in this respect.

I'm amazed by the fact that not more customers are ringing the alarm bells. The fact that yahoo is closed for business has had a devastating effect on the quality of this piece of software.

1 Its very slow in comparison to before with collecting the data. Its quite annoying, since I am a PAYING customer, I have actually just recently continued my subscription after the 6 months of using it within the terms of not having to pay a monthly fee.
2 I am getting very very poor results overall. Most of the backlinks analyzed are missing because the database will return a lot of backlinks that are missing. It's collecting data from a source that is obviously not fresh and up to date at all.
3 We are paying customers here. I don't like paying money for a service that is actually very inferior to the service I got just a week back. This should have been dealt with already. It gives me a sense that you are actually not able to provide us with an adequate solution, otherwise it would have already been implemented. As this was already known in advance. Either sort it out or let us use this inferior product for free, as I might as well use the free version, because when you deduct the amount of missing links, there isn't any need for a paying version.

I am already looking for an alternative for this software. The price is steep enough for me to go and look elsewhere, and I am quite sure I am not alone in this matter. This is what you get when you charge extra for a product. I DEMAND service!

I urge more people to respond and tell them of your experience so far since the change of the database. This is rubbish, and you people make enough money on this product to know that this will not be taken lightly by customers like myself.

A very unhappy customer

This is a bug we're fixing in the nearest update (most probably tomorrow), really sorry for the inconvenience.

Well, those are the backlinks that the search engines return, Yahoo among others. Now that we are switching to other sources (including our own databases, and that is a lot of development), the quality of backlinks is going to improve.

As we wrote in our official statement once Yahoo SiteExplorer went off, we are working on a serious change in SEO SpyGlass: http://www.link-assistant.com/blog/yaho ... er-nov-21/ Of course we have been preparing it previously but it's a great amount of work in general, so it's going to require some 2-3 additional weeks. Please feel free to contact our customer support folks to get some additional subscription time for SEO SpyGlass, we'll gladly make it up to you for the waiting.
