The estimated visits in the keyword research workspace appears to be somewhat out of date and inaccurate.

Looking at the numbers it would appear you are using the old 42% CTR for a site ranked #1 for that key phrase, however some recent research shows that the actual click through is only half that.

After all since the research which suggests 42% ctr for a #1 ranked site there has been many many changes to the SERPS.

Details of the new research can be found here:

I look forward to your comments and hopefully a change to your calculation when generating these figures :-)

We'll take a thorough look at various studies and eventually update the formula, that's right. Thanks for bringing this up.

Good to hear you will consider altering the formula, the last thing people want to be doing is misleading their clients.

In the meantime i'll be leaving those estimated visits out of my reports and i highly recommend others do the same.

Please keep us updated

Any ideas when this can be investigated / changes made, at the moment thousands of people are giving their clients inaccurate information.

Imo this should be a high priority.

We're not going to change to SEOMoz data as we can not trust it in all niches fully. It's something based on several hundred keywords which is far from being representative at all. We are basing on more profound research that is based on less assumptions.

This is a topic that's been driving me crazy. When I have a page 1 ranking, 8000 searches for a given ranking term, yet I'm only showing 20 - 25 clicks or less. I figure something's got to be wrong.
