I just worked on an interesting plugin which actually builds backlinks on autopilot. You can download it from there website, its 100% free and works well with all types of wordpress installations. You need to search for "blogpress seo" in google and you can get there site.
BTW some say its not so good, however if you really see the hard work in building links you will realize that this plugin actaully does a lot of good.
