Hi,
as a new user w/ Rank Tracker I was surprised by finding following deviations
between the Rank Track result vs. the real positions.

Im using 62 keywords, only w/ one keyword I verified:

Ranktracker found:

Dec. 21 google.de (web) - position 10
Dec. 21 google.de (out of Germany) - position 10
Dec. 21 google.de (in German) - position 9

Dec. 27 google.de (web) - not in top 100
Dec. 27 google.de (out of Germany) - position 49
Dec. 27 google.de (in German) - not in top 100

Making test by hand, the real result on Dec. 21 and Dec. 27 is:

Dec. 21/27 google.de (web) - position 9
Dec. 21/27 google.de (out of Germany) - position 9
Dec. 21/27 google.de (in German) - position 8

What happened ?....
Im nervouse, because how can I trust the other 61 keywords?

the above used keyword its "mallorca" in Google Germany....

I appreciate any help / hint / tip etc...

Thanks in advance ! :)

Olaf

The 2 probable reason for this different ranking are:

1. The software is using a different Google domain from the one you are using to search by hand.

OR

2. The software is a little outdated and needs to be updated !

Hi,

I placed my above mentioned "problem" parallel direct to the support-team. In the meantime (less than one day !) I got the respond by mail: I have to disable API keys(!)
(see the link to the article, too)
I did so and every datas now correct... (!)

Thanks for the quick respond to the questions.. ! ;)

Regards
Olaf

Google has many data centers, and you never know which data center you will get data from when you do a search.

Most data centers are synchronized in "real time" but even then you won't get exact results every time.

To prove my statement, go to google.com, and do a search using different proxies with USA IPs, and then using your own IP, and you will see that you get different results.

Keep in mind that google.de will display different results if you are in Germany or if you are in Spain. If you search manually and want to compare with Rank Tracker (which gives out correct results), you need to squeeze into your query URL : gl=DE (country code you want to check the results from, in this example, DE). Otherwise, you'll go crazy comparing results if you are not in the country of the specific SE you are checking.

I've got a similar issue. I've got a term that was ranking #1, but then dropped out of the top 100. I thought that was odd, so I did a search and saw that it was #1 and #2 in the organic search results. I even made sure the personal search was turned off, I'm using the exact term and I'm using the default, US Google search. What could be the reason for this?

Is Google correcting a misspelling in your search term? For example, does it say at the top of the SERPs "Show results for {Spelling Corrected} Search instead for {Misspelling}.

If so, Rank Tracker now ignores the corrected search results and instead searches for the misspelling.

I also find the ranking not exact but it's pretty close - try doing it by hand but with a proxy. Otherwise, by hand google will always make your site higher cause you visit it so often

Also if you logged in to google, that can affect the results.
