So there are two options to choose from when you're checking backlinks in Spyglass:you can enter the URL and check all backlinks or you can enter "the keyword for which you want to rank well" and your competitor. I tried the latter one recently and i wanna ask what does it do exactly during the check? i got a bunch of links with various anchors text and URL (not just with the keyword i entered) - how does it know that these are the links for the desired keyword you entered?based on what?

Many thanks

It simply takes the #1 site for that keyword in the search engine you specify on the next step.

You get a list of links extracted from the search engines, the list of pages that link to the #1 site. As backlinks to a site determine the way it ranks this information is a great help in making your own site rank. You should take a look at the type of links your competition is getting and, if possible, get those, or some of those links. Or concentrate on getting the same type of links etc.

You might want to read our e-book on that:

Appreciate your help.

But I think you didnt get my point. I'm talking about link relevancy, if you want. I look at the list of links which in your opinion are the best way to get to the top on the selected keyword. Of course i will ask myself how come are these links (and not other links) are the ones?
My question is: based on what factor does seo spyglass picks out the links he considers relevant for being in the top for the selected keyword?

Please tell if you understand what i mean

Many thanks

As I've already written, SpyGlass offers you a detailed list of links to a top-ranking website in your niche. It's up to an SEO specialist to decide which of them are relevant/useful and which aren't.

If you would like to outdo your competitor, you'll need to get backlinks of similar value to your own pages (this is what spying on competitors is for). If you need help with a particular report, please submit us a ticket and attach your project file to it.
